Penn Highlands SquarePennsylvania Highlands Community College will be holding an information session for individuals interested in the College’s Veterinary Assistant program. The session will take place in the Large Group Instruction (LGI) room, located in the Workforce Education Center, on the College’s Richland Campus. This information session will take place on Thursday, December 11th, beginning at 6pm.

This session will cover the details of the Veterinary Assistant program, including all of the topics discussed in class, clinical objectives, and more. Instructor, and retired veterinarian, Dr. Regina Allen will be on-hand to provide an overview of the program and to answer any questions individuals might have. Dr. Fayez Assad of the Johnstown Veterinary Associates, an American Animal Hospital Association Accredited practice, will provide information on the 40-hour clinical portion of the Veterinary Assistant program.

Veterinary Assistant classes will be offered in the spring and will cost $750. Those interested in registering for spring classes are highly encouraged to attend this information session. This session will also cover the various payment options to get you started on this exciting new career.

Penn Highlands SquarePennsylvania Highlands Community College will be holding a free Hospice Volunteer Workshop at the Richland Campus on Tuesday, August 26th, and Thursday, August 28th, from 6 to 8pm.

Join Emma Strapple, Volunteer Director at Windber Hospice, for this free introductory workshop on becoming a hospice volunteer. Learn the basics, as well as the various roles and responsibilities a hospice volunteer can have.

At the end of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to enroll in the free extensive training program offered through Windber Hospice. Pre-registration is required. College Logo - Blair (Square)Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Workforce Development and Continuing Education is excited to announce the expansion of its offerings in Blair County this fall.

Train for an in-demand career and prepare to take the DANB Radiology Health and Safety Examination by enrolling in the Dental Assisting program. The program includes 70 hours of in-class lecture and lab and a 40 hour clinical externship. The course runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30-9:00pm, from September 2 to November 6.

A 100-hour Veterinary Assistant course is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:00-9:00pm, from September 9 to December 11. Learn about the care of animals and how to recognize signs of illness and disease. This program covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as how to assist the veterinarian during exams. You’ll be provided the skills necessary to maintain an efficient front office.

For individuals in occupations where food is handled, the One-Day ServSafe Certification is a 15-hour course, including 7.5 hours of self/home study prior to the seminar, and meets PA licensure guidelines. The course is scheduled for November 3 from 8:30am-4:30pm. A valid textbook and photo ID are needed.

Beginning October 7 from 6:00-8:00pm, a four-week Introduction to Photography course will teach attendees the fundamentals of photography including exposure, composition, and technique. No experience is necessary.

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, in association with Harrisburg Area Community College, will be hosting a Green Awareness/Sustainability Seminar at each of our four locations. This seminar is free and will take place on Wednesday, October 19, and Thursday, October 20.

This no cost seminar will provide the following information:

  • What green and sustainable mean
  • Growth in the “Green” field
  • Current trends in green/sustainable employment
  • Career opportunities

Also, this seminar holds a great opportunity for engineers as it can be submitted for 3 PDHs in regard to licensing. Information on these PDHs will be provided upon request at the seminar.
