susan_fisherPennsylvania Highlands Community College is proud to announce the appointment of Susan Fisher as the College’s Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.

Ms. Fisher will manage all of the Human Resource functions at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College.  She holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from the University of Maryland University College and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from West Virginia University. Additionally, Ms. Fisher has earned her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification.

Prior to joining Pennsylvania Highlands, Ms. Fisher worked in Human Resource positions in the manufacturing sector.

Penn Highlands SquareOn Wednesday, February 24th, the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Career Services Center will be conducting a Mock Interview Fair for current students. The Mock Interview Fair will take place from noon to 2pm in rooms B102 through B108 of the Richland Campus, located at 101 Community College Way in Johnstown.

This event will provide Pennsylvania Highlands’ students with the ability to interact with local professionals, allowing them to gain practical interview experience. The experience they gain through these mock interviews will provide them with invaluable tools necessary for future success.

The organizations and companies volunteering their professionals to conduct the interviews include: Young Professionals of the Alleghenies, Rotary Club of Richland Township, DRS Technologies, Problem Solutions, Amber Springs at LaurelWood Care Center, Wessel & Company, S & T Bank, Riggs Industries, Kelly Services, Giant Eagle, Inc., Centennial Financial Group, LLC, Enterprise Venture Corporation, and Leventry, Haschak, and Rodkey, LLC.

College Logo - Somerset (Square)As a regional leader in education and workforce training, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College is expanding its workforce training efforts to its Somerset Center with Phlebotomy.

Phlebotomy training at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College consists of in-class lectures, hands-on laboratory experience, and 100 hours of clinical work at the local hospital. Students will gain experience in precautions and safety, special collection procedures, handling and processing of specimens, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and communication skills, and much more. The program (Phlebotomy I and II) will culminate with students being qualified to apply for the Phlebotomy Technician national certification exam.

Phlebotomy courses in Somerset will begin on April 19th and run through June 23rd. Students in Phlebotomy I will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 5 to 9pm, with Phlebotomy II consisting of clinical rotations.

Tuition cost for Phlebotomy is $1,558. To make the burden of cost easier, a five-month, interest-free payment plan is available and requires a down payment at the time of registration.

Penn Highlands SquarePennsylvania Highlands Community College and FirstEnergy will be holding a joint Information Session on the Electric Utility Technology program for interested individuals. The session will take place in the College’s Richland Campus Auditorium, at 101 Community College Way in Johnstown. This information session will take place on Saturday, February 13th, beginning at 10am.

This session will cover the details of the College’s Electric Utility Technology program, which will prepare students for a career in the electric utility industry. This program will include curriculum from FirstEnergy’s award-winning Power Systems Institute (PSI). For details on the Power Systems Institute, please visit FirstEnergy’s website.

Students who successfully complete the program will earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Electric Utility Technology. Financial Aid is available for qualified students.
